All the red wines from the Domaine de la Ferme Saint-Martin, located in Suzette (84), are organic and vinified without sulfur. I have always appreciated this cuvée "Saint-Martin," located in the Beaumes-de-Venise terroir, is composed of 95% Grenache (vines 50 to 100 years old) and 5% Syrah. It is the oldest. cuvée of domaine , first produced in 1964. Originating from Triassic clay-limestone soil at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, this wine reveals a remarkably deep nose of black fruits (elderberry, black cherry, and wild blackberry); on the palate, these black fruit aromas reappear, mingled with notes of grey pepper and tonka bean. The silky tannins give this cuvée an impressive density of texture. The low yields (20 to 25 hl/ha), the age of the vines, the very clayey geology and the expertise of Thomas Jullien, winemaker at the head of the domaine of Saint-Martin, explain the fullness and the race of this cuvée. This is Nicolas Perrault, a renowned winemaker in the area of Maranges who, during an interview, mentioned this domaine and prompted me to discover it.
At €22 including VAT, ex-private, wine lovers – accustomed to the prices of Burgundy wines! – will appreciate the affordability of this cuvée !
