Gevrey-Chambertin, ups and downs in 2021!

Last Thursday, the winegrowers of Gevrey-Chambertin, in Côte de Nuits , organized their traditional King Chambertin event. The festivities began in the afternoon with the tasting of around one hundred bottles of the 2021 vintage (most of which are still aging) of Gevrey-Chambertin villages Premier crus and grand crus. As we were able to observe in our tasting last spring (August-September issue of Bourgogne Aujourd'hui The capricious weather of the vintage is reflected in the wines, with a great deal of heterogeneity in style and quality across the cuvées presented. One thing is clear: sandwiched between "sunny" vintages, 2021 takes us back to the past, with medium-bodied, chiseled wines where freshness and purity prevail over richness and body.
