If some people weren't yet aware of the consequences of the 2024 vintage for Burgundy wines, they're scathing for the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges, which on March 9th will be releasing only... 35 228-liter bottles and one feuillette instead of 150 bottles in 2023. Indeed, 2024 is a historically low-volume vintage, with yields ranging from 6 to 20 hl/ha for pinot noir (28hl/ha for chardonnay), but Jean-Marc Moron, Hospices de Nuits estate manager, reminds us that "nature is well done". In the end, it was the small harvest that enabled us to obtain good ripeness at the end of the first 15 sunny days of September. In a few words, despite the year's very wet climate, 2024 reveals itself as a fine vintage with a very Burgundian classicism, all elegance with freshness, intensity of fruit and brilliant ruby hues. We were delighted to taste these wines, which have only spent a few months in barrel. They are flattering, complex and lacy for the most part.
Bottles and magnums from 2005 to 2017
To compensate for this small harvest, the Hospices have decided to dip into their cellar to offer buyers a selection of bottles and magnums from different vintages, from 2005 to 2017. A total of 240 bottles and 120 magnums will be on sale, available in lots of 1, 2, 3 or 6. This 64th edition will be led by a new auctioneer, iDealwine, world leader in online wine auctions.
This "small" 2024 vintage also means a change for the charity piece, known as the "pièce des Bienfaiteurs". For the past few years, the charity coin has been a blend of the estate's nine premier crus. This year, Hospices de Nuits is offering a piece of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru blanc les Terres Blanches, to the association, "coucou nous voilou". The charity piece will be sold by subscription, 288 bottles at a minimum price of €150 each.
The "coucou nous voilou" association, founded ten years ago by Marc Salem, works to improve the daily lives of hospitalized children and teenagers. The association has created AbracadaBoxes, plastic infusion cover boxes in the colors of famous heroes and characters loved by children, and also funds projects proposed by hospitals.

The tasting
Here are our favorites from the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine tasting, from the 2024 vintage.

Nuits-saint-georges village rouge Les Saint-Julien - 16,5/17 Here's a wine very much in the style of the appellation, with lovely power and aromas of black cherry, mocha wood and light tobacco... Dense, full-bodied and long on the palate.
Nuits-saint-georges 1er cru rouge Les Terres blanches, rouge - 16,5/17 Soft, delicate nose: floral, red fruit... Full-bodied, with candied cherry, well-integrated oak, mineral base and good length.

Some old vintages
Nuits-saint-georges 1er cru rouge Les Didiers monopole 2016 - 16 The wine seems to be at its peak, with rich aromas of blackcurrant jam, truffle, a hint of cherry au vie. The palate has evolved well, with density, flesh and lovely tension.
Nuits-saint-georges 1er cru rouge Les Didiers monopole 2015 - 16,5 The aromas are discreet and this 2015 requires decanting before tasting. We find the power of the vintage, with lots of substance, flesh, fresh fruit on the attack, and a long, spicy finish. More potential!
Nuits-saint-georges 1er cru rouge Les Didiers monopole 2010 - 15,5 Lovely, well-developed fruit, persistent: jammy fruit, tobacco, mocha... The wine is melted, fine, long, delicious to drink today.
