Each generation brings its own contribution. After Maurice Drouhin acquired the first parcels of Beaune premier cru Clos des Mouches in 1921, a wine that has become the emblem of the Beaune House Joseph DrouhinIn the late 60s, his son Robert considerably expanded the vineyard in Côte-d'Or, as well as in Chablis (40 hectares). Across the Atlantic, he created the Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, which has just celebrated its 35th anniversary. The 4th generation continues in this vein and has just acquired two new properties: one in Saint-Romain, Côte de Beaune, and the second in the Saint-Véran appellation, Mâconnais, for a total of over 20 hectares. The Joseph Drouhin domaine now covers the whole of Burgundy from north to south, from Chablis to the Mâconnais, covering almost 100 hectares. It comprises over 60 appellations, including 14 grands crus and 20 premiers crus.
7.5 hectares and a luxury hotel
The Drouhin family was already vinifying grapes from a parcel of Château de Chasselas, a charming spot in the middle of the vineyards. They have joined forces with the Millésime hotel group, which is buying the buildings to convert them into a hotel scheduled to open in 2025. Joseph Drouhin is buying 7.5 hectares of AOP Saint-Véran vines, including a parcel that is a candidate for classification as a premier cru. The estate also includes several parcels of Beaujolais and one planted with the Chasselas grape variety. She will be supported by the existing viticultural team from the 2023 harvest. The wines will be vinified in the Château's own winery. The first vintage of Saint-Véran Joseph Drouhin Château de Chasselas is scheduled for release in summer 2024. The vines are currently undergoing organic conversion, in line with the philosophy and practices of Domaine Drouhin, which has been growing organically for over 35 years.
Saint-Romain, a vineyard apart
The Drouhin family is also investing in Saint-Romain, in the south of the Côte de Beaune, a vineyard with a particular geologymarked by the limestone of the Lias, and promising in the context of global rew climatic conditions.
