The return of the Lyonnais to the Beaujolais !

Following the recent acquisition of Château from La Chaize, to Odenas and its 100 hectares of Brouilly , by Christophe Gruy, a new successful entrepreneur has just invested in the Beaujolais This marks the strong return of the Lyonnais to a wine region whose success they largely contributed to in the past… before being among the first, some twenty years ago, to reject it. A love-hate relationship…

Nevertheless, the Château of Ponce, domaine millennium of Beaujolais (since 949), overlooking Fleurie opens a new chapter in its history, following its acquisition by the Lyon-based entrepreneur Jean-Loup Rogé, CEO of the company Implid, who describes himself as: "a lover of wines from beaujolais ". THE château had been bought in 2008 by the Henriot family, who also owned the maison of the eponymous Champagne and the maison Beaune-based Bouchard Père et Fils since 1995. Rumors of a sale had been circulating for some time, and it always seemed to us that the Henriot-Bouchard duo were somewhat adrift. Beaujolais ; like the name initially given to the property, Villa Ponciago, before recently reverting to the more classic name Château of Ponce.

A trio in charge

A new trio will therefore now preside over the destinies of the Château of Poncié. Alongside Jean-Loup Rogé, we find the new director Marion Fessy, a big name in the beaujolais (there maison The Henry Fessy family business had been bought by the maison Beaune Louis Latour in 2008), from 6 generations of winegrowers and merchants and Joseph Bouchard, manager and head of cultivation of the domaine for over 12 years. The Château de Poncié, it's a domaine of 50 hectares of woods and hedgerows and 50 hectares of vineyards, of which about forty are cultivated in appellation fleurie ; to date, three single-vineyard wines are produced in fleurie Pré Roi, Salomine, Les Moriers, to which is added a cuvée of Beaujolais - Villages blanc (100% chardonnay (aged in barrels that have held 4 or 5 wines). The entire estate will be certified organic in 2022 (biodynamic certification should follow…), making it the largest domaine bio of the Beaujolais In 2019, the Château de Poncié achieved a turnover of €913,000, 30% of which was from exports (50 countries). The new owner plans to invest in the winery, a storage building (energy self-sufficiency), and the vineyards in a very targeted manner starting in 2020/2021. A new wine and wine tourism project to (re)discover the Château of Ponceau and open the gates of domaine Public access is also in the works. It's worth noting that three different types of walks (including one on electric mountain bikes through the vineyards) are already offered; in the medium term, an organoleptic trail will also be available. The already excellent wines of the Château de Poncié are available at wine shops, restaurants and at the wine cellar of domaine .
