Place de l'Europe in Chassagne-Montrachet Chez Papi is discovered almost by chance, tucked away in a discreet corner. Push open the door and you'll first find a vaulted stone room, then upstairs, seating for about twenty in a minimalist setting with understated tones and a few touches of wood. The overall effect is simple yet warm, with a soulful soundtrack playing softly in the background. A thoughtful detail: the engraved "Papi" tableware adds a personal touch to the restaurant's identity. The project is spearheaded by Valentin Lanneau, formerly of Beaune And Auxey-Duresses , who partnered with local winemaker Théo Dancer to open the establishment in October 2025.
In the kitchen, chef Felipe García offers a €32 lunch menu, positioned within a consistent price range for the area. During our visit: roasted leek and egg custard as a starter, fillet of black cod with spinach coulis and chipotle sauce, followed by French toast for dessert. Simple yet skillful cuisine where the flavors truly shine. The recommended wine by the glass that day was a Burgundy. Chardonnay 2023 of Domaine Michel Bouzereau , accompanied the meal brilliantly.
The wine list is well-structured and offered at prices rarely found in Burgundy! It focuses heavily on the Côte de Bourgogne. Beaune and Chassagne, it brings together recognized signatures from the village and the surrounding area. Wine lovers will also find neighboring appellations such as Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin , Meursault , Auxey-Duresses as well as an opening towards the Chablis region and the Côte de Nuits Prices remain reasonable considering the range of wines offered, with bottles starting at around €25 to €40 and the possibility of finding some excellent deals, particularly on wines from estates like Michel Niellon, Marc Morey, or Jean-Claude Ramonet with his Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet 2018 at €105! A recent addition that is quickly finding its place in the Chassagnard wine scene.
