THE
The City of Climats & Wines of Burgundy was inaugurated this morning, in Beaune ; all the presidents of professional organizations in Côte-d'Or and beyond ODG Several elected officials were keen to make the trip, presumably primarily to see what lay behind this impressive structure inspired by a vine tendril, which had been clearly visible for several months. And it's reasonable to assume that no one was disappointed. While we lack the expertise to judge, it seems to us to be a true architectural success, already recognized in architectural competitions in France and abroad. The structure, installed in a large wooded park a year ago, has real presence, and the best is yet to come visually; indeed, when the trees have reached their full height, only the top of the structure, which rises 24 meters above the ground and offers a magnificent view of the vineyards, will emerge from the canopy. "We wanted a monument for Beaune "It's a success," explained the architect, Emmanuelle Andréani.

Housed in a large, cellar-like space, the exhibition design is also high-quality, modern, informative, and original. We can even bet that the interactive 3D map, which lists more than 1,500 vineyard sites, will be a sensation; it's quite impressive to be able to explore the coastline with your fingertips, venturing into the valleys and zooming in on a... village or a premier cru Guaranteed effect… Also worth noting is that workshops and tasting courses will be offered by the Burgundy Wine School, which has been based here for a few weeks. “The inscription of the Climats on the World Heritage List on July 4, 2015, required us to create an interpretation center for the Climats. This has now been accomplished with this Cité des Climats & Vins (City of Climats & Wines) and its three sites…” Beaune , Chablis and Mâcon; these are places for the general public where we wanted to showcase Burgundy, which is more than ever today a model for terroir-driven viticulture,” recalled President Benoit de Charette in his speech. €22 million (excluding VAT) was allocated to the construction of the three sites (of which €14.5 million for Beaune ) with 6 main sources of funding: patronage (22%), interprofessional ( BIVB – 19%), the Region (18%), the city of Beaune (16%), the departments (13%), the urban and rural communities (12%).
