Hospices de Nuits, a stability awaited by all...

The sale of Hospices de Nuits wines brought in 1.526 million euros for the Hospices, with a price stability that was desired by all.

What conclusions can be drawn from the results of the 65th Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine auction, which concluded yesterday afternoon with stable prices at the average price per 228-liter barrel? Probably not much, given that the volume offered for sale (80.5 barrels) had indeed recovered somewhat after the disastrous 2024 vintage (36 barrels), while remaining far below the standards of the Nuits-Saint-Georges institution, which normally offers 120 to 130 barrels. The small volume of the 2025 harvest was therefore undoubtedly a key factor in the price stability, especially as the economic climate remains uncertain, with many markets offering Burgundian producers a lack of visibility.

The play of the " cuvée "benefactors" ultimately raised €59,500 for the Ani'nomade association (on the right, the navigator Louis Burton, sponsor of the sale – photo studio Morfaux).

It should also be added that, compared to its Beaune counterpart, the Nuits-Saint-Georges sale remains very distinctive, with much more regional media coverage, a domaine of a smaller size (a little over twelve hectares compared to sixty to Beaune ) and almost exclusively composed of Nuits-Saint-Georges villages and Premier Cru reds. In the current wine crisis, Burgundy is one of, if not the, French regions that is faring best at the moment. However, some may also have noticed the absence yesterday of the usual big buyers in the cellar of Clos of Vougeot where the Nuits-Saint-Georges sale was held, which tends to demonstrate that the markets are truly tight and that now is not the time to go on a buying spree. To finish with the figures, let's specify that the sale of the " cuvée "Benefactors" raised 59,500 euros for the Ani'nomade association, located near Dijon and specializing in animal-assisted therapy.

Finally, this 65th sale was the last for manager Jean-Marc Moron, who arrived 36 years ago and handed over the reins to Laurence Danel after making the Hospices de Nuits a quality reference recognized by all.
