Three years after its takeover by Artémis Domaines (Pinault Group and Henriot-Larouzière family), the Bouchard Père & Fils estate is spliting into two separate structures, with the official aim of "better expressing the identity of its exceptional terroirs", according to the press release.
The domaine is parting with its most iconic parcels (photos below) on the Côte de Beaune: the grand crus of Puligny-Montrachet (Chevalier-Montrachet and Montrachet) and the hillside of Cortons, the premier crus of Meursault, the Volnay Premier Cru les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot and the emblematic climats of the Beaune appellation, including the premier cru Les Grèves la Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus. These parcels will now be brought together under a new banner, the "Domaine des Cabottes", representing a total of 35 hectares. This new entity will benefit from a dedicated winemaking facility, currently under construction in Puligny-Montrachet, built to High Environmental Quality standards.
100 hectares in organic farming
The rest of the estate, around 65 hectares, which includes vineyards in Meursault, Pommard, Volnay and Beaune premiers crus, will retain the Bouchard Père & Fils name. The wines will continue to be vinified in the Savigny-lès-Beaune winery. All 100 hectares are now certified organic, and Domaine des Cabottes will begin its conversion to biodynamic farming in 2026.
It should be noted that the iconic parcels of the Bouchard Père domaine on the Côte de Nuits have been integrated into the Domaine d'Eugénie, another Artémis property. These include the grands crus Bonnes-Mares, Chambertin, part of Clos de Vougeot, Gevrey-Chambertin premier cru Les Cazetiers and Nuits-Saint-Georges premier cru rouge Les Cailles.
Frédéric Engerer, Managing Director of Artémis Domaines, comments: "Our goal is to enhance the incredible wine heritage of the Bouchard estate, and bring greater consistency to the range of these exceptional wines offered to wine-lovers.
2023 will be the first vintage of Les Cabottes and will be available for sale from 2026. 2023 is also the last vintage for Bouchard Père et Fils as négociant-éleveur, as from 024 onwards, the company has only produced wines from its own estates.
