Cyprien Arlaud takes the helm of the Association of Climats of the Burgundy vineyards

On Tuesday, January 27, the Association of Climats of the Burgundy vineyards elected its new president: Cyprien Arlaud, a winegrower from Morey-Saint-Denis. He succeeds Gilles de Larouzière, president of Artemis Domaines, after several years of leadership marked by the protection, promotion, and transmission of the Climats, which have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. Alongside him is Lauriane André, a winegrower from Beaune , was appointed deputy president, forming a pair of winemakers committed to continuing the collective work around the climates of Burgundy.

Outgoing president Gilles de Larouzière praised the collective commitment that has enabled key milestones to be reached since the Climats were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List: “I will always remember the rich human experience of these past six years. Each and every one of you enriches our vision of our region, our crafts, and our country. […] I feel immense gratitude towards each and every one of you. […] My involvement has allowed me to appreciate the profound richness of the Climats, our crafts, and our region. I have learned that transmission is its lifeblood, that this heritage takes many forms, that it can also be intangible, and that it is popular. […] Burgundy wines live on through the vision of the Climats!”

Preserve, transmit, promote

Seven years after joining the association's board of directors, where he previously served as deputy chairman, Cyprien Arlaud continues the work of those who shaped the Climats adventure, paying tribute to his predecessors: "Aubert de Villaine, Guillaume d'Angerville and Gilles de Larouzière successively built a profoundly human project and laid a solid foundation for our Mission, which it is up to us, collectively, to continue to grow."

Key priorities for the coming years include the implementation of a five-year management plan, the development of cooperation with other UNESCO World Heritage sites, the strengthening of outreach activities to younger generations, and the protection of the term "Climate" with the National Institute of Origin and Quality ( INAO ), now recognized far beyond the wine world alone. This renewal of the presidency comes at a time when the association is establishing a permanent presence at the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne in Beaune , since the latter became its headquarters on January 22nd.
